Ancestors       1991-3

This projection installation arose out of a year long artist's residency at Virginia Primary School, Shoreditch, London. Following workshops and projects with the children, this work was made with their collaboration. Snapshot photographs were made of the children in movement in the playground, without looking through the lens of the camera. The camera followed their movement in space. The resulting images were projected anamorphically within the architectural space of the gallery on a time based programme. As the visitor moves around the space, so the images move around them.
