A Forest of Signs (Athens) 2009

This series of photographs taken in Athens Greece, is part of the A Forest of Signs project (ongoing) which explores the presence of street trees as part of a matrix of signs and objects in the urban environment – a forest of signs. The project is concerned with the dispersed, local and piecemeal presence of the arboreal as experienced from the perspective of the pedestrian- arboreal presence acts as both a focus and as frame for interpreting the city. In this sense trees are agents, participants and catalysts in the social life of an urban neighbourhood - ubiquitous yet often overlooked.
